Senior Master Sergeant (SMSgt) Muhammad Mustafa is a proven frontline warrior who has significantly contributed to the Global War on Terror. He is the Superintendent of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) at the largest EOD flight in the Air Force’s Air Mobility Command. Under his leadership and skillful direction, his team defeated 323 roadside improvised explosive devices (IED’s) designed to kill or maim coalition forces.
 
While deployed to Iraq, he led the largest EOD disposal unit in that country. That unit was responsible for six forward operation bases spanning 18,000 square miles and 767 EOD missions. He ensured the safety of over $20 million in assets including 28 robots, 30 vehicles and 137,000 munitions items. Under his leadership and skillful direction, his team defeated 323 roadside improvised explosive devices (IED’s) designed to kill or maim coalition forces.
 
His team also eliminated 57 arms caches containing 13,487 enemy munitions aimed at coalition forces. SMSgt Mustafa is a born leader who has earned the respect of his troops through his actions. As a front line leader, he personally donned a bomb suit and made safe an improvised rocket on a timer that was set to destroy an Iraqi official’s home.
 
He has logged more than 166 combat hours on 41 EOD missions encountering IEDs, destroying weapon caches, and performing unexploded ordnance missions. His teams noteworthy battlefield honors include 17 Bronze Stars and 17 Army Commendation Medals.
 
Here at home, he is a mentor for local youth as an assistant baseball coach, and has volunteered to raise funds for Atlantic City area charities.
